Design and Technology Intent

At Barnfields Primary School children are taught to select and use appropriate tools safely and effectively to make a product. In all areas of Design and Technology the children are encouraged to consider the effectiveness of their designs and requirements of the product. Every child will have the opportunity to learn and extend their understanding, experience in as wide a variety of situations as possible, in order that their skills may be utilised in a full cross curricular sense. The children are encouraged to become innovators and risk-takers. High-quality design and technology education makes an essential contribution to the creativity, culture, wealth and well-being of the nation.

Our Design and Technology Approach at Barnfields

At Barnfields, we believe that it is essential for our children to learn about technology and how to design technological solutions to and for the needs of all peoples. Design and Technology provides real-life contexts and is purposeful.

Its essential goal is to satisfy a human need or want through creating objects that people can use.

The children at Barnfields will see themselves as designers! They will also refer to the subject by its full subject name; Design and Technology.
