Computing Intent

At Barnfields Primary School, we value the importance of a high quality computing curriculum. We believe ‘computational thinking’ is a skill children must be taught if they are to be able to participate effectively and safely in this digital world.  Our computing curriculum ensures that our children are digitally literate – able to use, express themselves and develop their ideas through information and communication technology.  Additionally, we aim to ensure that all children at Barnfields Primary School are equipped not only with the skills and knowledge to use technology effectively and for their own benefit, but more importantly – safely. The biggest impact we want on our children is that they understand the consequences of using the internet and that they are also aware of how to keep themselves safe online. By the time they leave Barnfields Primary School, children will have gained key knowledge and skills in the three main areas of the computing curriculum: computer science (programming and understanding how digital systems work), information technology (using computer systems to store, retrieve and send information) and digital literacy (evaluating digital content and using technology safely and respectfully).

Our Computing Approach at Barnfields

Our ambitious, knowledge-engaged computing curriculum enables the children at Barnfields to become computing experts. The three main areas of computing (Computer Science, Information Technology and Digital Literacy) will be referred to in each lesson, thereby allowing the children to understand the strand of computing that their lesson focuses on. 

Lessons will be planned for and delivered through using Kapow Primary, which is a scheme of work that develops pupils' skills and knowledge. It also stretches and inspires children to fully appreciate the technological world that we live in.
