At Barnfields we are a twin-track school. That means that whilst we place an importance on children’s progress in the key subjects of English, Maths and Science we also understand the importance of the other subjects of the curriculum. Within our English lessons we help the children to learn in both reading and writing. For our early writers and readers we use phonics to help support them. The phonics programme that we follow is Letters and Sounds which is a government approved document. To help with our reading we use several schemes: Code X, Oxford Reading Tree and Rigby Star.
At Barnfields we also talk about a creative curriculum. This means that we try, where possible, to teach all the other subjects under a particular topic. These topics have been planned using the national curriculum objectives and Chris Quigey’s skill based expectations. Inside each year group folder you will find details of their current and future topics. You will also find the curriculum content they will be covering for that term. If you have any questions or queries about the curriculum please do not hesitate to ask your class teacher.
