Physical Education Subject Rationale
Our PE rationale explains how we deliver a curriculum that promotes physical competence, confidence, and a lifelong love of movement. Drawing on the most recent educational research, we design a coherent and progressive learning journey that develops both declarative knowledge (techniques, rules, and health principles) and procedural knowledge (applying skills in varied contexts). Through carefully sequenced lessons, pupils engage in a broad range of activities—including games, dance, gymnastics, athletics, swimming, and outdoor pursuits—while building resilience, teamwork, and respect. We embed opportunities for practice, reflection, and healthy participation, ensuring pupils understand the link between physical activity and well-being. Purposeful assessment and retrieval practice support progression and mastery, equipping children with the skills and motivation to lead active, healthy lives.
