French subject rationale

Our French rationale explains how we deliver a curriculum that inspires curiosity and confidence in language learning. Drawing on the most recent educational research, we design a coherent and progressive learning journey that develops the three pillars of progression—phonics, grammar, and vocabulary—while embedding the four key skills: listening, speaking, reading, and writing. Through carefully sequenced lessons, interactive activities, and cultural exploration, pupils learn to communicate effectively and appreciate the value of languages in a global context. Retrieval practice and purposeful assessment ensure knowledge is embedded and applied, supporting progression and mastery. Our approach fosters enjoyment, resilience, and cultural awareness, equipping pupils with a strong foundation for future language learning and a lifelong appreciation of other cultures.
