Key Information
Homework is given out weekly in Year 6. They will be given three pieces each week on a Friday (grammar, maths and reading) and are expected to have this ready to mark in school the following Friday.
Please encourage your child to read as much as possible outside of school. It would be useful for all children to read a range of genres and authors over the course of the year as this will develop their knowledge and understanding substantially. Additionally, children can quiz on texts read via our Accelerated Reader programme used in school.
Our P.E. days are Monday and Thursday. Children are required to come into school in their school uniforms and get changed into P.E. kits before their lesson. Kits can be left in school for the half-term.

Curriculum in Year 6
Autumn Term 2025
The Autumn Term is always a memorable one in Year 6! This term, our History lessons will take us back to World War II, where we will be discovering the significance of the Blitz, exploring the experiences of evacuees and finding out how the war affected men and women differently. Our class texts will inspire a wide range of writing, including Varmints, The Highwayman, and Rose Blanche, while Letters from the Lighthouse will spark debate and discussion in Reading. To deepen our understanding of evacuation, we will also take part in a powerful Holocaust workshop, where the children will learn about Kindertransport and apply their knowledge in meaningful ways. In Geography, we will be undertaking a detailed study of Europe, and in Art we will produce powerful 2D soldier drawings which will be transformed into 3D sculptures. In Design and Technology, we will be developing our cooking skills by designing and making a snack to enjoy at our Christmas party. As always, the highlight of the term will be our exciting residential to Condover Hall, which we are already eagerly anticipating!

Spring Term 2026
As the new year begins, the excitement in Year 6 continues to build with a Spring Term packed with discovery and creativity! Our journey through History continues as we delve deeper into the events of World War II, exploring the bravery and resilience of those who lived through it. In Reading, we will be immersed in the poignant and moving story of Once by Morris Gleitzman, while our Writing will be inspired by the evocative imagery of Martin Impey’s The Blitz and a "gritty" modern twist on The Three Little Pigs from The Literacy Shed. In Maths, the children will continue to hone their mathematical understanding, mastering the Year 6 curriculum. In Geography, we are broadening our horizons to understand the world as a whole, investigating the complex geographical make-up of our globe. Our Science lessons will see us becoming biologists as we classify and explore the fascinating world of Living Things and Their Habitats. Creativity takes centre stage in Art, where we will study the pioneering work of Lotte Reiniger to design and create intricate shadow puppets representing the world at war. This technical skill links perfectly with Design and Technology, where we will be mastering electrical systems and complex switches to engineer our very own wire buzzer games. Physical Education has us refining our net and wall knowledge and skills through the vehicle of tennis; we will be programming in Computing and delving into school life and our families in French! Our Music learning has us deepening our understanding of pitch, rhythm and notation through 'A New Year Carol', and in PSHE the children will be goal-setting and learning how to continue to live healthily and make responsible choices.
