__________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________Curriculum - Spring Term 2024

This term we are continuing our historical journey back in time through our study of the Ancient Egyptians. Children will be finding out why the River Nile was so important to the Ancient Egyptians and how much emphasis they placed on the afterlife. They will also be looking at the gorier side of life during that time and exploring the ancient practice of mummification! We will be using this time period to fuel our learning in Geography too, as we study Egypt in closer detail and discover that the River Nile is still a focal point for Egyptians today, just as it was all those years ago. We will also be using the Ancient Egyptians as a stimulus for our writing, as we look at texts such as Cinderella of the Nile and write diaries pretending to be the great explorer, Howard Carter!

In Maths, we continue to look closely at multiplication and division as this is the backbone to much of the Maths your child will study as they move further up the school. Keep playing TT Rockstars to ensure they can recall their multiplication and division facts at speed! We will also be looking at Length and Perimeter as well as extending children's understanding of fractions.  Art will see us study the artist Andy Warhol and produce their own Pop Art piece. In Design Technology, children will be making their own flat bread and dip fit for a Pharaoh's feast! In Science, we are concluding our study of plants and moving on to look at Forces and Magnets and, in Computing, children will be finding out how to email their classmates whilst being responsible digital citizens.

It's going to be a very busy term but we know the children are going to love their learning!

Please join us, if you can, after school on Tuesday 20th February where children will have the opportunity to share some of their fantastic learning with you!

Curriculum - Autumn Term 2023

This term, we are travelling back to prehistoric times, where we will be learning about the Stone Age to the Iron Age. Our learning will take us on a journey to incredible places such as Stonehenge and Skara Brae where we will discover how Stone Age people lived. We will be exploring how people used land and about their daily life. In Science, we will discover how rocks and fossils are formed, the permeability of soil and about the marvellous Mary Anning. We will be using our Stone Age learning to support our Reading and Writing lessons too. In Art, we will be finding out about the original cave art paintings and having a go at doing some of our own too!  We look forward to bringing our learning to life in our visit to Tanglewood early in the term.  Our Maths learning will focus on Place value, addition and subtraction and multiplication and division.

Can you imagine a world without chocolate? We can't! We will be discovering about where chocolate comes from, how it is made and becoming real-life chocolatiers in the classroom. In addition to this, we will be visiting Cadbury World where we will learn about how chocolate makes it from bean to bar. In design and technology, we will be inspired to make our own chocolate packaging ensuring it is fit for the purpose. Our Geography lessons see us study South America, looking at Brazil and the Amazon rainforest in more detail and comparing these with life in the UK.

It's going to be a busy but enjoyable term and we look forward to inviting you in to celebrate our wonderful children's learning!
