Science SubJect Rationale
Our Science rationale sets out how we deliver a curriculum that nurtures curiosity, enquiry, and a deep understanding of the natural world. Drawing on the most recent educational research, we design a coherent and knowledge-rich learning journey that balances substantive knowledge (scientific concepts) with disciplinary knowledge (working scientifically). Through carefully sequenced lessons, practical investigations, and retrieval practice, pupils learn to observe, question, and explain phenomena while developing essential scientific skills. We promote the use of precise vocabulary, encourage collaborative discussion, and provide opportunities to explore the work of scientists past and present. Purposeful assessment and reflection ensure progression and mastery, equipping pupils to think critically, apply their knowledge, and appreciate the role of science in everyday life and the wider world.
