Welcome to Reception
In Reception we have two reception classes. Each class has a Teacher and a Teaching Assistant. We have a beautiful learning environment consisting of two classrooms joined together by sliding doors. During our direct teaching times children learn in their own classroom with their own teacher and during our independent learning times, we can open the doors to create a vast learning space where children are free to explore the learning opportunities in each classroom. We also have a fantastic outdoor learning space and creative room which children can access throughout the day.

AUTUMN TERM
The children in Reception have had a busy half term settling into their new learning environment and establishing new routines. They have begun their journey to read by learning twenty of the graphemes which represent phonemes during their daily phonics sessions. For each grapheme, they have learnt to say its pure sound, and how to form the letter correctly using its formation phrase. They have already begun to blend the phonemes together to read simple words.
In our daily maths sessions we have focussed on representing, subitising and matching quantity to numerals. We have also looked at comparing quantities using the language "more" and "fewer" and learnt many number rhymes.
In Expressive Art and Design we have investigated colour, mixing paints to create new colours. We have also created art work using circles printed by using circular objects. We have learnt that self portraits are representations of ourselves and created these with pencil, paint and collage materials.
In Understanding the World we have celebrated Diwali, learnt about ourselves in the past, thought about how humans change and grow, drawn pictures of our families and our houses.
Through our enhanced provision the children have had daily access to our beautiful outdoor area including den building activities, obstacle courses, balancing equipment, musical instruments, sand and water play, large scale blackboards and whiteboard, weaving frame, construction area, bikes and climbing frame.
