Governors

Our governors have a wide range of skills and experience, from both the private and public sectors, and bring those skills and experience to formal meetings and elsewhere in school to help drive the effective governance of the school.

The role of the Local Governing Board is to provide challenge and support for the school’s leadership team and setting the strategic direction of the school. It also monitors and evaluates the progress and attainment of our pupils, helping to set the school’s priorities for improvement set out in the School Improvement Plan.

The Local Governing Board meets once per term. There are also sub-committee groups that meet once per term and feedback to the full governing board. Governors are expected to be a member of at least one committee, and to fulfil the role of link governor, meeting with subject leads on a regular basis and reporting back to the Local Governing Board.

As the school is now part of the South East Stafford Academy Trust, Barnfields has two Governor representatives on The Trust Board, including the Headteacher.

Safeguarding is of the utmost importance to our school. We have a governor who leads on safeguarding matters, but it is a key role for all our governors. We want the children to feel and be safe in school, and in return we expect them to be well-behaved and respectful. This environment enables our children to flourish, having the support and guidance to fulfil their potential.

Barnfields is a wonderful school, a key part of the local community, and well-supported by a very successful PTFA. Our ethos is to provide our children with a twin-tracked education, making good progress whilst being well-rounded individuals with strong values. With our excellent teaching staff, effective governance and the support of parents, we are proud that our children leave Barnfields perfectly well-prepared for their secondary education.

The Local Governing Board echos the School's Vision, striving to provide an inclusive environment where "children achieve well and make outstanding progress in a curriculum that is both fun and well-balanced". It provides challenge and support for the leadership team, setting the School's strategic direction, ensuring the physical, emotional and mental well-being of children and staff, and making sure that resources are allocated appropriately to achieve this Vision.
