During the first half term of the year, children discuss the theme of democracy in their classes. Through this learning, children gain an understanding of why living in a democratic society is so important. Their discussions culminate in the School Council representatives being elected in each class from Year 2 upwards, who will sit on the council for a full year. The School Council meet regularly with Mrs Jones and Mrs Turton to discuss suggestions on how to improve the school and to plan fund raising activities. Following each meeting, the representative feeds back to their class and collects further suggestions. The School Council also play an important role in appointing new staff. During the interview process all applicants will meet the School Council who ask a series of questions which inform the appointment procedure.
Previous councils have had great success in organising events throughout the school year supporting local and national charity events.
Barnfields Children in Need Day raised over £500, with a special thanks to the extra knitted Pudsey Bears.
